I have 2 sunflowers that I only just planted. The main flower on them are dead. can you cut off the dead ones so that the new shoots will thrive. If you can, what is the best position to snip them from.

Yes, cut them off with a sharp secateurs just above the new shoots. Use an angled cut rather than straight across. Plant in full sun in rich soil. If they are a variety that will grow over a couple of feet then it is probably best to put in a cane beside each one and tie in. Ties loosely with the string in a figure of 8 around the stem and the cane so that the stem does not rub against the cane. |
