I think I have a load of slugs around my potatoe plants. How can I be sure, is this harmful for the plants, can the slugs get into the ground and eat the tubers and how can I get rid of them without using harmful chemicals?

I've used saucers of beer to drown slugs. They can't resist the beer and probably die a happy death. Only used this method on flowers. Don't know if they eat tubers. Around here many people cover their potato "mounds" with black plastic to prevent "greenies" and promote warmer ground hence faster growth. That should take care of the tuber eating problem (if they do indeed like them) too. Good luck. |
